Summarize PDF Online
Extract important sentences from selectable PDF text and create a concise summary directly in your browser.
Extractive summary, not generative AI
This browser-first version scores and selects important sentences from the PDF's existing text. It does not send the document to an AI service and does not generate new factual claims.
Processed in your browser
For supported PDFs, text extraction and summarization happen locally on your device.
How to summarize a PDF
Choose your PDF
Select a PDF containing selectable text. Scanned image PDFs should be processed with OCR first.
Choose summary length
Pick short, medium, or long depending on how much detail you want to retain.
Review or download
Copy the generated summary or download it as a plain text file.
Browser-based PDF summarization
This tool extracts selectable text from the PDF and scores sentences using term frequency and sentence position. The highest-scoring sentences are kept in their original document order to create an extractive summary.
Because the summary is made from sentences already present in the document, this version does not invent new wording or rely on a remote generative AI service. It is useful for quickly reducing long reports, notes, articles, and text-heavy PDFs while keeping processing in the browser.
Extractive summarization is different from semantic AI summarization. It may preserve less context when a document relies heavily on tables, diagrams, scanned pages, or highly technical relationships between sections.
Frequently asked questions
Is this an AI PDF summarizer?
This browser-first version uses extractive text scoring rather than a generative AI model. It selects important sentences already present in the PDF.
Can it summarize scanned PDFs?
Not directly when the PDF contains only images. Use the OCR PDF tool first to extract text from scanned pages.
Can I choose how detailed the summary is?
Yes. Short, medium, and long options change how many high-scoring sentences are retained.
Is my PDF uploaded?
For supported PDFs, text extraction and extractive summarization happen directly in your browser.
